ARDN Rural Connector  - Writing Contest

ARDNand wants to give post-secondary students the opportunity to publish their writing and win some money. One submission for each category will be awarded $250. All articles must have a rural focus. Click here to view the poster.

Purpose
The purpose is to inform and inspire Alberta’s rural citizens about rural issues and rural living.

***Please feel free to take each category the direction of your choice as long as the rural focus is maintained

Prizes
6 prizes of $250 each, a byline, and author’s name on the masthead.

Eligibility

1) You must be currently enrolled at a member post-secondary institution in Alberta. You can view a list of all 21 of ARDN’s member post-secondaries by clicking here

2) All submission must be a previously unpublished and original work by the author.

3) All submissions that have been in print, on the internet, broadcasted, or delivered to an audience are considered published and ineligible.

4) Each author is welcome to submit multiple articles.

5) Articles must be between 500 and 1500 words in length.

6) Each submission must be accompanied by a submission form.

How to submit
There are three ways that you can submit your article:   

1) Email
Fill out the submission form and email it and your article to communications@ardn.ca

2) Fax
Complete the submission form and fax it and your article to 780-449-0054

3) Mail
Complete the submission form and mail it and your article to:
Alberta Rural Development Network

Sherwood Park, AB  T8A 2H5


Submission Guidelines

11) All entries must be accompanied by the Rural Connector Article Submission Form

2) The author’s name must not appear anywhere on the entry itself, only on the submission form.

3) If any interviews were conducted please include the names and phone numbers of all interviewees on the submission form.

4) Please include a list of any sources consulted for the creation of the submission at the end of the article and where these sources can be fact checked.

5) Articles must have a rural focus (if you are unclear what this means please call or email Melissa - 780-449-1006 ext 224 or communications@ardn.ca)

Judging
Articles will be judged anonymously based on the author’s use of language, originality of subject, writing style, use of plain language, and consideration of audience (see readership below).

Rules and Regulations
Authors who submit an article maintain that they have created the entry and that they own all rights to it. All participants will indemnify and hold the Alberta Rural Development Network and all its affiliates, harmless from and against any and all loss, damage, costs and other expenses arising out of claims, whatever their nature resulting directly or indirectly from breach of this warranty. By submitting an article and accepting the prize, authors grant that the Alberta Rural Development has the following exclusive rights:

1) The right to first print publication of the winning entries and to publication on its internet site for one year beginning on the date of publication.

2) Winners, as well as the people accompanying them, or their parents or guardians if the winners are minors, shall agree, if necessary, to have their name and/or picture, including their photograph, and/or their voice used for advertising purposes related to this competition, free of charge.
