How do safe and healthy communities relate to quality of life, challenges and gaps in rural human service provision, vibrant communities, and service deficits? These and other questions will be explored through presentations that showcase communities, human services, education, research, and professional practice in rural Alberta on Sept. 28 in Edmonton, Alberta, at the Sandman Signature Hotel.

The one-day, facilitated conference will bring together stakeholders in community development, health care, education, mental health, social services, and wellness and recreation to discuss rural Albertan human services. The Alberta Rural Development Network (ARDN) has sponsored this gathering hosted by Athabasca University.

Rick Neidig, President and CEO of Northern Lakes College and Chair of the ARDN, and Lars Hallstrom, Director of the Alberta Centre for Sustainable Rural Communities Associate Professor, University of Alberta, will give keynote presentations. Click here to learn more.

There will be 11 interactive presentations that showcase rural human services projects, community programs, research, training, and service delivery for community development, health care, education, mental health and social services, and wellness and recreation.

Throughout the day, the conference will examine how rural human services impact communities, specifically their safety and health. The focus will be on opportunities to collaborate for rural development across human services and on integrating research, practice, education, and community needs. Participants will benefit from important and relevant information on rural human services and will be engaged in meaningful and action-oriented discussion.

Registration is $125 for the day and includes lunch and all refreshments. Parking at the venue is free.
