Portage College Receives Prestigious Accreditation for Natural Resources Technician Program

Bookmark and Share

Portage College has recently received the North American Wildlife Technology Association (NAWTA) one year accreditation for its Natural Resources Technician program, available at the Lac La Biche campus.

This is the highest level of accreditation given to a new institution’s programming that includes wildlife and fisheries technology education. Al Bertschi, coordinator for the Natural Resources program at Portage College, attended the NAWTA conference in Georgetown, South Carolina and presented the college material. It was on the basis of the quality of instruction and excellence of curriculum that the accreditation was awarded, explained Terri Rogers, Executive Director, NAWTA.

The only other institutions in the province with this accreditation are NAIT and Lakeland College.

The Natural Resources Technician program provides students with development of hands-on skills that includes collecting field information, monitoring industrial activity, and performing various environmental assessments. The program helps to ensure that the impact of industry development on our environment is minimized.
