Bookmark and Share

More than $4,000 is available for students involved in a renewable energy video contest. Beginning Tuesday, October 19, 2010 Lakeland College’s Vermilion campus is giving youth ages 14 and up an opportunity to tell the world what renewable energy means for their future.  The contest is called Explore Your Renewable Energy Future, and the deadline for entries is December 3, 2010.

Video submissions should be 90 seconds long and should explain an aspect of renewable energy science or technology in a creative or original way. The winners will be chosen by a panel of judges. Videos will also be posted on YouTube for people to view and select the people’s choice category.

The winners will be announced on January 31, 2011. Prizes include iPads, iPod sound docks, video cameras, electronic store gift cards, and cash.

The contest is supported by Lakeland’s centre for sustainable innovation. The focus of the centre is on the development and exploration of technologies that shape renewable energy sustainability through food production, farming practices, and housing, energy, and water systems.

Along with ARDN, several other organizations have joined the college to support the contest, including the Natural Science and Research Council of Canada, Alberta HUB, Lloydminster Economic Development Authority, New Cap Broadcasting, and Future Shop.
