“The entrepreneurial spirit is alive and well in rural Alberta,” says Alberta Agriculture and Rural Development Minister Jack Hayden.

All across Alberta, people in the agri-food industry have been given an amazing opportunity: close to $9 million dollars in grants from the government. This money goes towards the investigation of new markets, production of new products, and the formation of new technologies.

Fifty-one projects have been approved. They range from animal care programs and food safety initiatives to increased marketing strategies and new animal rearing systems: all things that will make Alberta’s agri-food businesses more competitive and productive.

The plan is that the government will work with the agri-food industry and strive to stimulate short and long-term improvements that will benefit us all. These grants will be another step towards attracting investments and providing jobs, and another step in the right direction for rural Alberta – after all, entrepreneurial spirit is what we are made of.
