Invitation to Statistics Canada Consultation

The Geography Division of Statistics Canada is launching a series of consultations on the 2016 delineation of Census Metropolitan Areas (CMA) and Census Agglomerations (CA). It will also look at the definition of zones influenced by CMAs and CAs (MIZ). The last comprehensive review of the CMA/CA methodology was in the 1970s.

Everyone is invited to join the consultation process.

It will take two phases:
1)    The researchers will get input from users on how, when and where CMAs and CAs are used. Discussion will take place on methodological matters before the actual proposed changes occur. They will analyze the feedback and ensure that any changes suggested are acceptable.  Phase 2 will also be considered in detail.
2)    In the second phase, the consultation will be expanded to other users and the initial proposed changes to the delineation methodology will be reported on. The final required set of changes will be approved and then the changes will be made available to the public.

The consultation will consist of presentations, meetings and workshops. Everyone will keep in touch through e-mail, mail and fax.

You can participate two ways:
1)    Complete an online template which is available in the “Discussion points” section of the Consultation Guide and send it in by e-mail, mail, or fax.
2)    Write your suggestions in a format that suits you and submit it by e-mail, mail, or fax.
